‘Over the mountain, through the deepest valley. The streams are soun-ding, the trees are all rustling.’ Those who know walking poetry will have a so called ‘lightbulb moment’ with ‘Boppard walks’. There are four long distance hiking trails going through Boppard: the Rhine-castles path, the Rhine high route, the Mosel high route and the Hunsrueck high route. The Ehrbach gorge route combines the Rhine and the Mosel. Walking The Middle Rhine via ferrata enables alpine walking. The forest experience trail and also the oenology trail Bopparder Hamm speak for themselves. The Hunsrück railway combines the steepest railway track in West Germany with a walk. The seven other round walk routes between 8 and 13km lead through the 10 districts and confirm that Boppard is beautiful everywhere. Boppard lies directly on the 120km long Rhine cycle path which crosses the Rhine Valley on both banks from North to South. Special featu-res of cycle touring on the romantic Rhine are the many ships and ferry terminals which allow regular bank hopping. On a height the ‘Schinder-hannes cycle path’ offers an idyllic cycle route whose starting point Emmelshausen can be reach easily with the Hunsrueck railway. Cycling and Nordic Walking The Bike park Boppard is a small park with a dirt track and a free ride route. The dirt park is suitable for beginners and advanced cyclists. The free ride route is approx. 1.1km long, the height difference is not quite 200m. In the upper part there are large, fast jumps. The paths in the wine growing area Bopparder Hamm, on the Eisenbolz and around Fleckertshöhe are high-ly recommended. On Thursdays there are Nordic wal-king get togethers from 9.30 am to 11.00 am led by an expert. It enables walkers to walk on the natural landscape in a way that you would not expect in a low mountain range. It is a demanding tour that should only be walked on with hard wea-ring walking boots. Furthermore you need a head for heights and surefootedness. For children and inexperienced persons climbing equipment is necessary.
