Half-Timbered Houses in the Town Eltzer Hof One example of the many medieval residences belonging to the privile-ged at that time in Boppard is the carefully restored 'Eltzer Hof'. The buil-ding to the rear goes back to the 16th cent., while the main building to the street is from the 18th cent. The coat of arms signifies the marriage of this noble family of 'Eltz' (Lion) and that of the 'Stromberg Fist'. Ritter-Schwalbach-Haus One part of the Federal Academy (formerly a monastery for Franciscan monks) is the Ritter-Schwalbach-Haus on the banks of the Rhine (13-15th cent.) and is one of the oldest buildings in the town. It is a square, three-storey building with little bay window turrets and pointed, helmet-like towers standing next to the medieval 'Sandtor' (Sand Tower). The healing Spa at Bad Salzig Places worth seeing 12 – 13 The Spa at Bad Salzig with its Park In 1901, Captain Theodor von Baginski began to bore the area in order to find salty water for the establishment of a spa. The healing waters of the Barbara and Leonora springs were to provide the basis for this bathing spa in Bad Salzig, which was then festively opened to the public in the year 1907. The warm, healing water, which is rich in carbonic acid, is still used for therapeutic purposes. It also supplies the modern thermal bath building with water, which is now annexed to the classical spa facilities. The historical bath house is open to patients, tourists and local inhabitants alike. Ursula Bertram has artistically decorated the drinking hall, located in the original building, in co-operation with the erection of the new clinic buildings. The adjoining park, which surrounds the Middle Rhine Clinic, invites one to take long walks through its arcades of ancient trees, and supports the concept of a place of physical rehabilitation.
