Our tip Leisure Time There's a lot going on in Boppard. While the mini-rail 'Rheinexpress' rolls through the town's lanes, presenting the visitor with the most interesting spots there, the Hunsrück Railway (1908) for its part clam-bers up the steep viaducts and over the bridges of the Hunsrück region. It's here that the challenging cycle route waits for the brave biker. One can get uphill quickest by using the seat lift and so reach the Gedeonseck lookout point and that of the famous Vierseenblick. And it's from here, too, that the paragliders slip into the local thermic airs to breeze and wheel like birds at a great height over the Rhine Valley. It's from this vantage point of course that one can catch a glimpse of the 18-hole Jakobs-berg golf course in all its fresh greenness, a place which stands for another 'earthy' passion, a place of holes and handicaps. The champion-ships course was set up on a Rhine terrace near Boppard in the 90s. From here, one has a unique view over to Westerwald, Taunus and Hunsrück as well as Marksburg – and of course into the Rhine Valley below. The course was moved here and realised by the American golf-course architect, Robert Trent Jones jr. Leisure time: THE TRIP BY SEAT LIFT This trip up to Gedeons-eck is an absolute must while staying in Boppard (height: 240 metres (approx. 720ft). Superb views over the greatest loop in the Rhine in this region.
