Approximately 2000 years of Roman history between Mainz and Koblenz have left a rich inheritance to the region, and it is not only the wine which the Romans brought here that claims our attention in an array of cultural heritage left by this mediterranean civilisation. 'Bodobrica' was once the name given to Boppard in around 360 AD and the impressive fort erected by the Romans is testimony of its former greatness. What we see today as its remains belongs to the best-preserved castles north of the Alps. The twenty-eight towers and eight-metre high walls tell of a turbulent history.
